Middle Atlas Day Trip from Fes Itinerary
Your Middle Atlas day trip begins when your driver from Fez Charm Tours picks you up from your hotel or riad in Fes at 10 am. (Times can be adjusted to suit your needs, so just ask us—we’re always willing to help and are very flexible!) This day trip incorporates visits to charming villages in the Middle Atlas Mountains, which reach elevations of up to 1,360 meters above sea level. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas and breathe deeply of the clear, fresh, cool mountain air. First, you will be driven to the village of Immouzer, renowned for its apples, which are fragrant and beautiful, especially during the apple blossom season in spring. In July, Immouzer hosts the famous National Apple Festival, attracting visitors from near and far. Next, you will visit the delightful town of Ifrane, known for its charming Alpine-style chalets nestled in the Atlas Mountains, earning it the nickname "The Switzerland of Morocco." If you visit during the summer, these cool mountain towns provide a refreshing escape from the oppressive heat. In winter, Ifrane and the nearby ski resort of Michliffen offer a range of snow sports activities. As you ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains, catching tantalizing glimpses of the stunning landscape, your next stop will be Azrou, which means "The Rock" in the local Berber language. This ancient settlement is still inhabited by the Amazigh (Berbers), the original inhabitants of Morocco before the arrival of the Arabs. Azrou is a lovely village with flowerbeds, cherry tree-lined streets, and green-tiled roofs, situated in the heart of Morocco's largest cedar forest. Here, you may encounter the Barbary apes, actually a type of macaque monkey, who might try to share your lunch! You will also have the opportunity to see tribal herdsmen at work, milling flour or engaging in traditional carpentry and carpet-making. If you arrive on a Tuesday, be sure to haggle for a rug at the market, as prices here can be much lower than in Fes, and the locals are known for their friendliness. The Middle Atlas day trip concludes with a pleasant return drive to Fes, where Fez Charm Tours will drop you off at your hotel or riad.
